Performance Features
1. The Concept
KATORAM® Safety Solutions is a company with a business focus on the development
and implementation of safety concepts and solutions for corporate and individual
clients.
The basis of our philosophy is the KATORAM® Body and Instinct Training on which
all our trainings are built.
Body Training:
At KATORAM®, all movements taught during a training derive from existing, well-known
movements and actions of the daily life.
Our extensive experience in training and education tells us that the transfer
of complex ‘fighting movements’ mainly causes confusion and blockade in emergency
situations. This can lead to the so-called ‘stress paralyses’ because of the inability
to effectively recall and use the right thing from a multitude of choices.
Instinct Training:
Our instinct is comparable to a little advisor who is living inside us and who would
like to help us in emergency situations. To do this he needs information which should
be created though the lifetime of a human being. It consists of information that
assured the survival of the individual in the past such as:
If I am fighting with a bigger, stronger and armed enemy, without weapons I will
lose
If I am carrying my food alone, the risk is bigger that someone will take it
If it is dark, I avoid unknown territory because of the risk to fall, injure etc.
If I want to hunt an animal, I have to observe the wind, topography, distance, noise
etc.
As you see, our little friend only works with basic and essential information.
We in our Western world of the 21st century have now deeper experience on the
martial functioning of our instinct and thus our little friend is relying on wrong
information.
Example:
Someone is standing in front of you, struggles you and pushes you with your back
against a wall. Both of you, you and your instinct, have never experienced such
a situation before, you never had to physically defend yourself so far. You know
this – your instinct does not. He thinks he can handle the situation because your
subconscious is constantly fed with fights, beating and kicking – buzz words of
the media (movies, papers and TV). Therefore, you and your instinct have memorized
movements, behaviour and the rhetoric of emergency situations transmitted by the
media which do not correspond with the reality.
KATORAM® training gives your little friend the basis for a right functioning
– all other aspects follow almost automatically.
2. Trainings
a) KATORAM® Body & Instinct Training
Content
Ignorance and wrong information lead us to fearfully withdraw from any critical
situation. Thus, we constantly try to avoid any confrontation because of fear of
the unknown. Based on real situations, during the training you learn how to deal
with menaces, aggressions etc. The ability of self – defence will positively change
your life and your environment.
In our modern, civilized world we are bombarded with an enormous quantity of
useless information and – in most cases – are diverted from unpleasant issues. If
such a diversion is not possible, we are fed with wrong information to prevent us
from being worried. We are taught to calculate the volume of a recipient, but are
hold back from making a deeper martial experience: should two school boys fight
on the school yard, we call the police and should a child climb a trey, the fire-brigade
will soon be there.
It has to be clear that in current days with the ongoing globalization the world
has more and more the character of a global town where cultures meet and melt, which
we can only handle up to a certain level. Therefore, individuals who have learnt
through experience to take care of themselves are much fitter in most circumstances
of modern life.
During this training you will be taught – on a martial level with fighting situations
– to use your existing skills. You will be shown the differences between rational
and instinctive awareness, judgement and reaction. You will train to instinctively
use your body and brain and to rationally check this use. Thus, your existing strengths
will be optimized and possible weaknesses reduced.
The core element of the KATORAM® Body and Instinct Training lies in the ‘anchoring’
of daily movements and actions and the development of the personal instincts. The
structure of the training is such that all important movements are directly exercised
and applied with our KATORAM® trainers. This guarantees maximum success of the training.
Main elements of training
The training is built on the following core aspects and elements:
Stress analysis
Fighting theory: daily police experiences, the development of disputes and robbery,
revolving patterns and the definition of relevant frames for a positive outcome
Movements and actions of the daily life such as ball games, swimming movements,
use of a power saws, partially combined with outdoor trainings
Instinct trainings where you learn the functioning of your instinct
Strategic behaviour
Controlled de-escalation
Fighting practise: correct behaviour and reaction scenarios trained with our specialists
Weapons: right behaviour in case of aggressions with weapons (fire-arms, knives,
sticks etc.)
Participants
Employees of all functions and hierarchies, security and safety managers, expats
in critical countries and regions, sales representatives and customer managers with
potentially critical customer contacts
Duration
3 days of which 2 days with 2 trainers
b) Communication and De-escalation in Critical Situations
The best and most secure approach to handle a critical situation is not to let it
happen or to reduce it at a very early stage through the use of professional and
efficient communication and de-escalation techniques.
Many critical situations are often triggered by a wrong, inadequate attitude
or act: a wrong word or a strange look or an inappropriate reaction. In most cases
little is needed for controlling such a situation and achieving a de-escalating
result: the right tone and choice of words, the adequate eye contact, kindness,
a convincing and immediate excuse, the efficient reduction of pressure or the re
- channelling of attention. These behavioural tactics contain a verbal and non-verbal
dimension and it is important that both appear in a congruent and, thus, convincing
way.
The training is an exciting combination of theoretical concepts, practical exercises
and the concrete application of the KATORAM® Body & Instinct Training with a focus
on ‘anchored’ movements and reactions. This guarantees an optimum learning effect.
Main elements of training
The training is built on the following core aspects and elements:
Familiarization with proven, theoretical communication concepts
Experience and learning of own behavioural patterns
Transfer of concrete, practicable tools for the improvement of the own specific
communication skills
Learning of the KATORAM® Body & Instinct Training
Recognition of the escalation phases leading to critical situations and application
of concrete and efficient de-escalation measures
Simulation of critical situations in role plays or cases and training of appropriate
reactions
Training of physical behaviour patterns in critical situations
Introduction of basic elements of emergency psychology
Participants
CEO’s and members of the Executive Boards, investors’ relation managers, security
and safety managers, expats in critical countries and regions, pilots and flight
attendants, sales representatives and customer managers with potentially critical
customer contacts
Number of Participants
For practical and efficiency reasons we recommend to limit the number of participants
for this in-house – training to 14 participants.
Duration
4 days
c) Safety and Security Management
Not only since 9/11 are terms like internal security and civil courage headlines
and cited everywhere.
The need for internal stability and security in companies is steadily growing and
is backed by the stagnating world economy. However, danger potentials mustn’t be
feared only by the often cited ‘black man’ (terrorists). Especially in companies
there is also the fear of saboteurs, industrial spies, envious people, former employees,
creditors and debtors, black mailers, shoplifters, robbers etc. who are often motivated
by hopeless situations, having nothing to lose.
The comprehensive monitoring of potential sabotage targets becomes a logistic nightmare
with such a broad field of suspects. The tighter you install your safety net, the
higher the costs, which again are of great importance, especially during times of
an economic slowdown.
Try to seize the dimension of a strong defence army of employees – if you have
around 500 employees in a company and all of them are trained in safety techniques
up to a certain level, it will be nearly impossible for an aggressor (see list above)
to realize his intention without being disturbed. This should also be the objective:
to disturb a potential aggressor, deter and discourage him so that his plans will
fail.
Therefore, it is important that employees know how to react in critical situations
and that they are in a position to immediately recall these reaction patterns when
needed.
Main elements of training
The training is built on the following core aspects and elements:
The individual as a potential source of risk
De – escalation
Self – defence techniques
Use and enhancement of personal resources
KATORAM® Body & Instinct Training
Escape and escape assistance
Participants
Employees of all functions and hierarchies, security and safety managers, expats
in critical countries and regions, sales representatives and customer managers with
potentially critical customer contacts
Duration
3 days
d) Basics of Emergency Psychology
Incidents like technical and environmental catastrophes, work accidents, hold-ups,
attacks and acts of violence can cause tremendous psychological impacts on human
beings, be it as a victim, participator, relative or emergency staff.
Combined with the employment of specialists, trained laymen, too, can deliver
an important and immediate psychology first – aid service in emergency situations.
It contributes to a significant reduction of long-term effects and negative human
and financial consequences of such shock impacts.
The focus of this psychology first – aid services is:
Psychological stabilization in case of fear, pain and shock
Stress reduction
Symptoms’ reduction
Assistance during the recovery and absorption process
Enhancement of the self- healing faculties and resources
Identification of ‘persons at risk’
In this training we combine two important aspects: on one side, the transfer
of theoretical concepts and know-how and, on the other side, the concrete application
and intervention based on role plays and simulations. Furthermore, personal strategies
for handling such traumatic impacts are developed or expanded and practical aspects
discussed.
Main elements of training
The training is built on the following core aspects and elements:
The phases of traumatic experiences
Their psycho-physiological, psycho-biological and psychological symptoms and side
effects
Functions of a psychological first – aid assistance:
Immediate measures
Options for interventions: successful techniques and frequent mistakes
Handling of frequent reaction patterns of victims, relatives, participators etc.
Assessment of kind and necessity of other emergency staff and specialists
Phases of action and co-operation with other emergency staff and specialists
Handling of own shock
Participants
Managers, security and safety managers, member of emergency and first – aid teams
and social services
Number of participants
