Overview
The Dreambox Satellite TV Receivers are the first satellite receives based around
the Linux operating system, its open source operating system not only has satellite
TV enthusiasts buzzing but has also got the Linux world talking as well. The dm7000
Receiver is based around a 250 MHz IBM PowerPC Processor and contains the standard
sat TV features like a DVB Common-Interface Slot with smartcard reader as well as
goodies like a compact flash socket, USB port and 100mbs Ethernet connector.
As far as we can tell the thing is almost future proof. The box also has an udma66
IDE interface to upgrade it with a standard hard drive giving you the opportunity
to turn it in to a digital video recorder. Its this flexibility that has got satellite
TV enthusiasts in a spin and with more and more people buying the box and many developing
their own bits of software for the Dreambox it may be the only Satellite receiver
you will ever need.
